Start with the basics
Of course correct thread path, but you've eliminated that
Verify correct needle system, and proper size needle for the thread you are using.
Check saftey clutch if it has one
Check hook timing and
Needle bar height.
A thick stack of material can cause needle deflection, if you think that is the case, go up needle a size or 2
If you have been sewing through a lot of basting tape the needle can become gummed up and the thread won’t pass through correctly causing problems like this
Thanks for the replies. The machine started yesterday skipping stitches at any speed when I started a new job with thicker upholstery fabric. Thinking it was a timing issue, when I went to retime I noticed the shaft that the bobbin basket/hook is attach to has play in it, causing the shaft to move back and forth. Which made the basket/hook assembly not be a paper width away from the needle scarf. Now I have to figure out how this happened and how to fix the issue.
