    Hey guys, I just finished my second set of Toyota seats, and I put them up on sale on a Toyota Facebook group. I am generally happy with the seats, and have made some subtle improvements compared to my first set.

    Now the issue is that as soon as I put the seats up on sale, a lady immediately criticized the seats saying that they look homemade, and the seems look stretched. She said they are of very poor quality which means that I have possibly lost a potential sale.

    Can you please tell me where improvements could be made, and if they really do look like a bad homemade product?
    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Don't know what that lady was looking at, or for, but I think they look great! Maybe just a little looseness on the outside collars(i've done that before too) but otherwise looks really nice. I don't think you have to worry about it.

    Thanks. I didn't do any steaming or picking mate. I just followed the usual process and put my learning into practice. :thumbsup:

    Yes mate I agree about the collars, and i'll keep that in mind for next time.
    It's the second set that I've made, and after reading that lady's response on the Toyota forum, it kind of lowered my confidence and then I was thinking that maybe my work isn't yet good enough for the marketplace. That's why I thought i'd get other opinions from you guys and maybe learn what i'm doing wrong.
    I appreciate the feedback :thumbsup:

    @Tuttah ,

    You have to respect the old school methods. If I had a computer and CNC machine punching out my pieces for my covers they would be looking a lot better. There is a buyer for them but you have to be patient.

    Tell the "lady" that if she is not interested in buying, leave the comments to herself. They look really good. How much are you asking?

    I'm based in Europe so around 950 euros, or 1100 us dollars.
    It's probably some competitor, or just a stupid keyboard warrior. I turned off the comments so that I wouldn't get more negative comments, and that they can contact me directly if interested. I hate Facebook for this reason!!

    I'm just curious how much people would probably charge to reupholster these i the US or other countries :thinking:

    @Tuttah , to be honest unless they were being done custom I would not recover them. I can purchase seat skinz for less than $700 for that set in leather and the install can be an hour and some if you are skilled. That leaves me sitting with a pair of seats sitting for sale leather, factory sewn and for about the same price as the vinyl redos. I would really like others opinions on this though.

    I totally get what you are saying. However I have fixed the foam as you could literally feel the metal frame. lol
    I have also replaced the heated seat elements which do fail on these seats. I'm not worried about these selling as I have sold my previous set with no issues. However my problem was the negative comments someone left saying that they are of bad quality which got me paranoid about whether my work was good enough for the marketplace. Or if you guys could see any issues with the seats, or if improvements could be made. I sort of lost my confidence because of the negative comment. :sweat_smile:

    @Tuttah That is great work! Don't let that lady get in your head. Shes probably trying to get you to come down on price or something. That looks better than factory to me.

    Only advise I have is get your self a good fabric steamer and steam your cover before installing, especially the seams get those nice an hot. This will allow the thread and fabric to relax and lay down smoother. The steamer is a trimmers best friend :thumbsup:

    Thanks John, it really means a lot coming from a man of your expertise. I have a domestic steamer which to be honest I haven't really used much apart from on the foam, and because I honestly didn't know it would make such a difference on the fabric/ vinyl. I am still in the early learning stage. :smile:

    I appreciate your feedback :thumbsup:

    Shes a twit, or a competitor. Click on her profile and see what's on her page, she could even work for some one in the business, or related to some one. The average joe doesn't go around picking stuff apart, average joe doesn't have a clue.

    @Tuttah , all I have to say is tell her to do them herself and show you the outcome :smile: I do not think any customers realize the agony of foam repair or the time it takes to do that. I always have foam rebuilds and once I start shaping it I am wishing I had not even started ha ha. Shut that lady out and just keep at it!

    Ah it really is an awesome machine. It ticks all the boxes and it really has a feel good factor when using it. It can take anything and everything you throw at it.
    Btw, I sold the seats this afternoon for the full asking price which is a great outcome. The buyer was well happy with them :smiley: :thumbsup:

    @Tuttah ,

    Congratulations! You earned every penny. I am happy to hear about that machine, my concern was the size of the machine but it sounds like it really is the new generation of Upholstery machines. I know another member on here likes his too.
