I have been reading a lot on machines and came across the above.
how effect are they? Any opinion will be greatly valued.

I have a Singer 4452 That I use on almost a daily basis. It is a great machine for Quilting, making jeans and things of this nature. I am not saying that it will not sew thru a couple of layers of vinyl . It will do this, but not like an industrial walking foot machine. The stitch length will not be long enough and it will not handle the thread size that you need for Upholstery work. If you are on an extreme budget and need a good be not high priced portable machine I suggest a REX 607 as seen here. for the straight stitch or the Zig Zag I have the straight stitch version and it does everything I need it to. It is a copy of sailrites LS1 and every thing that sailrite sell for the LS1 fits on it, the other one (REX 607Z) is the same as sailrites LSZ1 . Hope this helps some.

wow,this is good advise. Thanks so much. But what accessories does the Rex 607 come with pls?

I saw some feedback notes that says no table? Could I build a table for it?

It comes with a few needles, some screw drivers and sewn patch to show you it works, but no table. But it will fit into any standard sewing table. I built a table for mine to go into using the legs off of an antique blind hemmer.

Hope, What type of upholstery are you doing?
The 2 machines your asking about will be too light weight for automotive and marine upholstery.
You will be able to get by with the Rex machines shown above. Eventually you'll want to upgrade to a more industrial machine if your doing a lot of work.

We are a Janome studio here. Love them! That said, for heavy duty sewing (denim, upholstery, etc) you might consider something else. I have a Singer heavy duty machine for that kind of work. My Janome will do it, but with much complaining. My mom just got a Baby Lock for smaller embroidery work - the jury is still out on it. Back in the day I used an old Kenmore machine. That machine would sew through anything!

@EmmaLove Thanks for the great information and sharing your knowledge. Its really nice to have someone here with more knowledge on those types of smaller machines.
However In my experience the singer machine you recommended here will not be strong enough for Automotive and Marine upholstery. It is imperative that people doing these types of heavy upholstery are buying an industrial walking foot machine.

There is no walking foot attachment that replaces a true industrial walking foot. The attachments sold at all miss advertising what they really are... they are junk.
