I was watching the video on strengthening the springs in a automotive seat. The course uses baker clips to attache the cross supports. Why not just use hog rings? Just one less tool and one less type of clip I have to have.

Not only will hog rings not hold the springs tight enough, they will leave sharp points in places you don't want them. I have, in a pinch, wrapped spring or border wire splices with baling wire tightly, though I don't recommend it.

Good question! @John Long is correct. Hog rings wont hold tight enough to make the repair work. If you really dont want to spend the money on baker clip pliers I have used channellock pliers to install them it just takes a lot longer.
