This is my first attempt at reupholstering anything. In purely fabric-retention mode, I managed to throw away the card material shown in '01 - Card strip', and am now looking for a way forward after upholstering most of the stool.
I took photos as I was deconstructing the stool, but wasn't as comprehensive as I should have been. But based on the pics, after the foam was in place, I believe the order the material were added to the stool were:
1) The main piece of fabric covering the top and hanging down the sides (stapled down)
2) The piping (laid in place under the strip in in the next step (without being stapled yet)
3) The length-ways strip, with the card material which I think was pushed in close to the piping before being stapled in place, before the material was folded down ('02 - Frabric strip')
I got to this stage ('03 - Current progress') before recalling I'd thrown away the card material. So I'm now wondering how to complete the project. In the original piece, the strip in Step 3) was completely flush and seemed almost connected to the piping in Step 2), and I'm trying to achieve that now.
I was considering gluing the strip upwards to the piping, but worry about staining/marking the piping because of overfill of glue, or that it would loosen over time. So my questions are:
- Would a limited amount of glue get the strip flush with the piping, and keep it in place over time?
- If not, what is the name for the strip of card that I threw away?
- Does it sound like I've got the order right for putting the materials in place?
