Hi all. I have a 1954 Rover 75 with bench seat in front. The upholstery is plain (non-pleated) leather. One seam has gone apart, would it be possible to mend this without removing the upholstery? I suppose the best way is to move the cover and semi the stitches by hand or machine, but I cannot understand how to loosen the leather from the seat frame. There seem to be no hog rings to fasten it. Instead there is a metal bar, about 5 mm wide that runs along the edge of the leather, along the entire front and short sides. As far as I can see the edge is pulled over five hooks on the frame, but it seems impossible to lift it off these hooks. Does anyone know of this construction? Picture shows hook. The metal bar is inside the red cloth material.

I have never worked on one of these but I dont think those are what is holding on the cover. Its hard to tell from the picture. Can you post more?
my guess is there is probably something sew on to the edge of the cover and is fits in to a channel or hook on the seat frame. This is a fairly common attachment method on newer cars.
