Hey everyone, i am doing upholstery for classic cars and i need some help from you, guys.

How to do those embossing lines, what is the technology? Is there a roller machine to buy anywhere? Or can i make one. My guess is that to be able to emboss those lines like that i would need heat and pressure at the same time? What temperature is needed? Do i need special foam or some sort of glue for this technique to work? I'm confused.. Help

The 'embossed' lines are usually stitch lines. Cloth backed foam is laminated to the back of the vinyl and then the pattern is stitched. Might be a different process was used in your photo but that's the usual way to get patterns into the surface.

Yeah, usually they are stitched. I offer my clients to do stitching also, because i don't know how to do those embossed lines. But i have seen original old covers in person whit those embossed lines and some clients want that done too. I'm looking everywhere to find out how it is done. Basically the line is pressed in, but why it hold it's form i don't know for sure.

The lines shown in your picture are stitched in to the fabric with 1/2 inch scrim foam backing the fabric. Its a fairly simple process just takes a little practice.

Embossing of vinyl take a special machine, that unless you’re into production numbers of seat covers will never be worth it. There is a video out there of a company that uses one to produce seat covers for MG’s or something similar. Hard to get machines and hundreds of thousands of dollars I was told.
