Hi Everyone,
first post here.
I got an industrial sewing machine, a Mitsubishi DB-189-10. The manual says the 10 version of the DB-189 machines is light to medium use.
The speed was incredibly high with the basic 10 ton motor that came with it, so I made up a quadruple pulley (i.e. 2 stage) reduction system and fitted a servo motor. I can now make the machine go at a tortoise pace, while going fast enough at full speed for my liking.
Today I just tried 12 layers of denim with V69 thread and the machine did not even notice it was there. The pulley reduction with servo motor will give the machine loads of torque so that won't be a limiting factor.
So my main question is will the mechanics of this machine be a limiting factor, or if I run relatively slowly will I be able to go up to a V92 thread or even a V132 thread. Speed is not of importance to me right now so I'm OK with a job taking much longer.
Also the machine is NOT a walking foot, but after managing to carefully feed a short but lumpy 12 layer section of denim under the foot I'm wondering if I will be able to take on some rather serious canvas work to make my boat bimini.
Anyone think I will get by with this machine for this.
