@KPO

I think this is a great question. I have been attaching the J Hooks onto the sides first then working the front and back J Hooks of the seat.

I did some research on this very same question you have and this is what I found, cut your top and bottom seat plates with the stretch running from front to back on the bottom plate and vertically in the back plate. Cut your boxing so that the non stretch is running from your seat back plate to the outside of your seat and from your bottom plate to the bottom of the seat. Hope this helps.

Hi @KPO! Welcome to the forum!
Yeah what bondo said is pretty much correct. Theoretically what you want is to run your long seams in the direction of least stretch. Its because its easier to get out of alignment when your sewing on the more stretchy direction.
But from my experience I can tell you that it really doesn't mater much. For me its far more important to fit all your pieces in the material you have without wasting material.

Hope this helps!

I would do a fabric seat recover anyday of the week all day long over vinyl. I have also used the I HATE VINYL saying too and thrown my arms up in the air saying I am quitting sewing :sob:
Hi Big Rig,
I love the work you did on the fabric seat above. You kindly helped this newbie with Seiko machine advice which I just bought. I'm researching fabric at the moment as I have a Nissan Ute benchseat that I want to make a cover for rather than reupholster. It's a D21 1987? year I think. Can you tell me a bit about the fabrics you have used please? I'd be purchasing in Australia but obviously can source stuff online depending on shipping.
